Breaking News: First Lady Rebecca Akufo refunds allowances paid to her since 2017

The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana Mrs Rebecca Akufo who has been on the floor for sometime now for enjoying so much allowances and husband still demanding payment equating to cabinet ministers, has returned her back dated allowances from 2017 till date.

In an official letter from the office of the First lady sighted by Ghananewspress.com states that:

“I am directed to forward, herewith, a consolidated Bank Ghana Limited cheque number 000002 for an amount of Ghc899,097.84 (Eight hundred and ninety nine thousand, ninety seven ghana cedis and eighty four pesewas) being the full refund for monies received from 7th January 2017 to have as allowances given to Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana.

As directed by the statement issued on the 12th of July, 2021 Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic, is refunding the money stated above and also takes this as an opportunity to decline any allowances to be paid in the future.

Her Excellency the First lady remains committed to her role as First lady and is devoted to her charity work championing the wellbeing of women and children in Ghana.

Please accept madam, the assurance of our highest consideration”.

Meanwhile, Same Ghanaians who teared her apart for wanting to take such huge amounts as compared to cabinet ministers are still not sure that this is a genuine thing done. Some say there should be a deep probe so that Ghanaians don’t get deceived by just this official letter.
