Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has expressed disappointment in the Communications Minister-designate, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for some comments made during vetting.
Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, on Monday, February 15, 2021, whilst facing the Appointments Committee of Parliament, denied knowing about some activities that took place under her authority during a 4-year tenure as Minister for Communications in Nana Akufo-Addo’s first term.
The MP for Ningo Prampram, a member of the Communications Committee of the 7th Parliament took to social media to express disbelief that the former Minister could make such claims.
“I am surprised at the number of things the Minister-Designate claimed not to know about”, parts of his post read.
The MP further revealed that agencies under the former minister’s watch used technicalities to
evade the usual scrutiny and oversight responsibilities of Parliament.
“Not once in the four years, contrary to s.33(2) of Act 524, did they present an annual report. Only God knows what they have been hiding”, he added.

I am surprised at the number of things the Minister-Designate claimed not to know about.
As a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Communications over the past four (4) years, we had several clashes over moves by the Ministry to frustrate our oversight over agencies under the Ministry especially the National Communications Authority Ghana.
Due to the non-subvented status, they evade the usual annual scrutiny of the budget hearings. Not once in the four years, contrary to s.33(2) of Act 524, did they present an annual report. Only God knows what they have been hiding. The 8th Parliament owes it to Ghanaians to ensure that Parliament is more efficient in its oversight of the Executive.
If I find myself on the Communications Committee again, I would do all in my power to block the approval of the budget estimates of the Ministry of Communications Ghana if they fail to present the reports of their Agencies in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
So help me GOD. 🦁🇬🇭
