Private legal practitioner and member of the NDC legal team, Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe has criticized the Akufo-Addo led government for mismanaging the resources of the state and failing to take responsibility of their incompetence.
Lawyer Edudzi Tamekloe, on ‘New Day’, Media General’s current affair talk show on TV3, explained that government has made no meaningful uses of tax revenues over the years but continues to burden the ordinary Ghanaian with more taxes with no intentions to reduce the suffering of Ghanaians.
“Government has made a windfall on crude oil by selling at the prevailing price of $83.00 per barrel instead of the budgeted $55.00 but the president’s use of expensive jets is draining the resources as expenditure incurred on presidential travel from January to September 2019 alone amounts to12 million dollars,” he stated.
According to the NDC lawyer, the Price Stabilization Levy has given government so much revenue to develop the country but there is nothing so far to show for it.
He bemoaned government’s attempts to seize every opportunity to blame Covid-19 for the woeful economic performance.
In his reaction, Richard Nyama, Deputy Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) explained that majority of the windfall from crude oil price does not go to government.
He further stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has copyright to corruption and thus Edudzi had no moral right talking about corruption.
Mr Nyama again explained that the Minority in Parliament is failing at the responsibility to stand by the ordinary Ghanaian in providing alternatives.
